About

Meet Pavani Perera

✓ IRD Registered Tax Agent — Inland Revenue Department of Sri Lanka

Long before MyTaxBuddy existed, I was already playing the role of tax advisor — helping family with their filings, fielding calls from friends who had received an IRD notice, walking colleagues through what a return actually involves. I did it because I could, and because I wanted to.

What struck me every time was not the complexity of the issues — but how avoidable they were. Educated, capable people facing penalties simply because nobody had ever explained what tax compliance means or how straightforward it can be. The word "tax" alone was enough to cause anxiety.

I run this practice alongside my finance career deliberately — it keeps me current, and it means every client receives real-world advice, not textbook theory. I take on a select number of clients so that everyone I work with gets my full attention.

Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions

Plain English answers to the questions we hear most often.

Do I need to file a tax return?
If your annual income exceeds LKR 1,800,000 from any source — employment, rental, freelance, interest, or dividends — you are required to file. If you have a TIN or have received an IRD notice, you must file.
What documents do I need?
The basics: NIC copy, salary slips or annual salary certificate, bank statements, and your APIT certificate from your employer. We send you a full checklist when you get in touch.
What happens if I file late?
Missing the 30 November deadline can result in a penalty of up to LKR 200,000 plus interest on unpaid tax. Filing on time — even if you can't pay in full — is always better than not filing at all.
What is APIT?
APIT (Advance Personal Income Tax) is the tax your employer deducts from your salary each month — previously called PAYE. The total deducted counts as a credit when you file your annual return.
Can you advise in Sinhala?
Yes. All services are available in both English and Sinhala. Communicate in whichever language you are most comfortable in — we want this to be as stress-free as possible.
I earn in USD as a freelancer. Do I need to file?
Yes. Foreign currency income earned by Sri Lankan residents is assessable. We convert your earnings to LKR at the rate you received and handle everything — Upwork, Fiverr, and direct client income included.
